뚜껑에 전설 속 동물인 서수(瑞獸)를 형상화한 사자 모양의 손잡이가 달린 연화형 향로입니다. 화려하게 피어난 연꽃 위에 위엄 있게 앉아 있는 사자의 모습은 향로 전체에 장중한 분위기를 더합니다.
뚜껑의 손잡이 역할을 하는 서수 사자는 오른발로 수구(繡球)를 밟고 있는데, 수구는 자수를 놓은 공 모양의 장식품입니다. 이러한 모습은 ‘사자곤수구(獅子滾繡球)’라고 불리며, 위엄과 권세를 상징할 뿐 아니라 수호자의 역할, 재화를 물리치고 행운을 불러온다는 의미를 지닙니다. 중국 자금성에도 유사한 사자상이 있는데, 오른쪽의 숫사자는 오른발로 수구를 밟고 있어 천하 통일을 상징하고, 왼쪽의 암사자는 새끼를 데리고 놀며 자손 번창을 기원하는 뜻을 담고 있습니다.
사자와 관련된 문화로 ‘사자춤’이 있습니다. 두 사람이 나란히 서서 사자탈을 쓰고 사자의 동작을 흉내 내며 추는 춤으로, 위엄 있고 험상궂은 사자탈을 통해 강한 인상을 주며, 특히 새해가 시작되는 시기에 재액을 물리치고 다가오는 복을 지키려는 의미로 행해집니다.
향로는 활짝 핀 연꽃 모양의 몸체와 꽃받침을 닮은 받침대, 그리고 이 둘을 연결하는 부분으로 구성되어 있습니다. 전체적으로 포도빛을 띠는 짙은 자색(紫色) 유약이 아름답게 발라져 있습니다.
굽바닥에는 세 개의 운두(雲頭)형 다리가 부착되어 있으며, 회갈색 유약이 시유되어 있습니다.
熏炉呈莲花形，其上盖钮为瑞兽狮子造型。狮子威严端坐于盛开的莲花之上，使整件作品更显庄重威严。
盖上的瑞兽狮子右脚踩绣球，绣球是一种刺绣装饰的球形物品。该造型为“狮子滚绣球”，象征威严和权势，同时寓意守护与避灾迎福。此外，北京紫禁城内亦有类似的狮子雕像，右侧的雄狮以右脚踏绣球，象征天下一统；而左侧的雌狮则以左脚护幼狮，寓意子嗣繁盛。
与狮子相关的文化中，还有“舞狮”。舞者两人并立，共同戴上狮子造型，模仿狮子的各种动作进行舞蹈，给人以强烈的视觉冲击。这种舞蹈常在新年期间表演，是一种驱邪避凶、迎福纳祥的仪式性活动。
香炉由盛开的莲花状炉身、类似花托的底座，以及连接两者的中间部分构成。整体呈现类似葡萄色的浓郁紫色调，十分引人注目。
炉底下承三云头足，施有灰褐色釉。
This incense burner features a lotus blossom form, with a lid adorned by a handle shaped like a lion, representing the mythical creature known as a ""ruishou"" (auspicious beast). The dignified lion, seated majestically atop the fully bloomed lotus flower, lends an air of solemnity and grandeur to the piece.
The lion, serving as the lid’s handle, is shown with its right paw resting on a decorative embroidered ball called a xiuqiu (繡球). The xiuqiu is a ball-shaped ornament resembling an intricately embroidered sphere. This motif is referred to as ""Shizi gun xiuqiu"" (獅子滾繡球), symbolizing authority, power, and the role of a guardian, as well as the ability to ward off misfortune and attract good fortune. A similar depiction of lions can be seen in the Forbidden City in Beijing, where the male lion on the right side stands with its right paw on a ball, signifying dominion over the world. The female lion on the left side is shown playing with a cub, symbolizing prosperity and the wish for flourishing descendants.
Additionally, the cultural tradition of the ""Lion Dance"" is associated with lions. Performed by two dancers wearing a lion costume and mimicking the movements of a lion, this dance conveys a strong and powerful presence through the fierce appearance of the lion mask. Especially during the New Year period, the dance is performed to drive away evil spirits and protect incoming blessings.
The incense burner consists of three parts: the body shaped like a fully bloomed lotus flower, the pedestal resembling a lotus calyx, and the connecting section between the two. The entire piece is beautifully coated with a deep purple glaze, reminiscent of the color of grapes.
The underside of the base features three legs in the shape of cloud motifs, finished with a grayish-brown glaze.
