[이코노믹데일리] 다보성갤러리가 역사적 예술적 가치가 매우 높은 고대 중국 화가 석각(石恪·934~965)의 작품을 담은 희귀 화첩 등 진귀한 중국 유물을 언론에 특별 공개했다. 

다보성 갤러리는 지난 13일 오후 서울 종로구 인사동 다보성갤러리 상설전시관에서 중국 고미술 전문가들을 초청해 송·명·청대의 희귀 도자기 작품을 비롯해 석각의 희귀 화첩을 비롯한 다양한 중국 유물의 공개감정을 진행했다.

12일부터 13일 양일간 진행된 다보성갤러리 소장 중국 유물 감정에는 우샤오화(吴少华) 중국소장가협회 고문, 션지아신(宣家鑫) 상하이 서예가협회 부주석, 천커타오(陈克涛) 상하이 소장협회 상무 부회장 등 중국의 저명한 감정가 3인이 참여했다. 이들은 지난해에도 다보성갤러리에서 중국유물의 감정을 진행한 바 있다. 

이날 진행된 공개감정에서는 중국 전통 문양과 기법이 고스란히 담겨 있는 도자기 4점과 서화 1점에 대한 감정이 진행됐다. 

‘대명선덕년제 관청화백자운룡문개관(大明宣德年製 款青花云龙纹盖罐)’ 등 송·명·청대의 희귀 도자기 작품 4점을 감정한 천커타오 부회장은 “우리도 처음 보는 희귀한 작품들을 많이 볼 수 있어서 기쁘다. 많이 배웠다”고 말했다. 

다보성갤러리에 따르면 천커타오 부회장은 비공개 감정에서 송나라 휘종 연간에 제작돼 황실에서 사용된 것으로 추정되는 ‘상식국 관장유상이유개병 (尚食局 款酱釉象耳有盖瓶)’에 대해 "값을 매기기 어렵지만 일부 작품은 4200만~5250만 위안(약 80억원~100억원)대에 달할 것"이라고 평가했다. 이 작품은 사자 모형의 뚜껑이 있고 어깨 양쪽에 코끼리 코 모양의 귀가 붙어 있는 유개병으로 간장색 유약인 장유와 코끼리 코 모양의 귀, 사자 모양 뚜껑 등 화려한 장식이 특징이다. 다보성 갤러리 관계자는 한국에서 중국 도자기 값을 이렇게 높게 책정한 경우는 없었다고 설명했다.

석각 화풍에 대한 상세한 해설, 미술사적 연구 자료로 활용 기대

이날 현장에서는 석각의 작품이 담긴 가로 826.3Cm, 세로 47Cm의 초대형 화첩에 공개돼 시선이 집중됐다. 이 화첩에는 석각의 그림뿐만 아니라 명나라 시대 유명 인사들의 글과 그림, 석각의 화풍에 대한 해설까지 포함돼 있어 역사적, 예술적 가치가 높다. 특히 석각의 작품은 민간에서 볼 수 있는 예가 극히 드물어 그 희소성이 매우 높다는 설명이다.

자신만의 독특한 화풍을 선보였던 석각은 불교, 도교 인물 그림에 뛰어났으며, 형식에 얽매이지 않는 자유로운 필치와 풍자적인 요소가 특징이다. 이번에 공개된 화첩에는 그의 독창적인 화풍을 엿볼 수 있는 다양한 그림들이 수록돼 있다.

또한 이 화첩에는 석각의 그림 외에도 송나라 장수인 철수(鐵遂), 명나라의 문신이자 정치가인 이동양(李東陽), 저명한 문학가이자 시인·서예가인 왕치등(王穉登), 서화가 송극(宋克) 등 여러 인물들의 글과 그림이 인감과 함께 실려 있어 그들이 직접 작품을 감상했다는 사실을 알 수 있다. 이들의 작품은 석각의 그림과 어우러져 화첩의 역사적 가치와 예술적 가치를 더욱 높여준다는 평가다.

철수는 ‘정신을 담은 묘한 글씨’를 의미하는 ‘묘묵전신(妙墨傳神)’이란 글을, 이동양은 1508년 봄 그림을 감상한 사실을 기록한 ‘정덕무진춘왕정월(正德戊辰春王正月)’이란 글을, 왕치등은 ‘이 책은 석각이 자신만의 독특한 경지를 개척하며, 또 다른 차원의 예술적 표현을 개시했다’는 내용의 찬사를 적었다. 화첩의 마지막에는 송극의 ‘石恪字子專益暢人性(석각자자전익창인성)’이란 글이 수록돼 있다. 송극이 석각의 성품과 예술을 높이 평가하며 후대 사람들에게 석각의 예술 세계를 이해하도록 돕기 위해 그의 사조와 인품을 묘사한 글이다. 

이 화첩에는 석각의 화풍에 대한 상세한 해설도 담겨 있다. 그림의 구도와 배치, 인물 묘사 등 석각 특유의 화풍을 분석하고 있어 석각 작품 연구에 중요한 자료가 될 것으로 기대된다. 또한 화첩에 포함된 다양한 그림들은 옛 그림의 표현 기법과 미적 감각을 엿볼 수 있다.

션지아신 부주석은 “석각은 오대십국(五代十国) 시대에 태어나 송나라 시대에 주로 활동한 화가로, 당시 황제가 설립한 궁중 화원의 부름에도 굴하지 않고 자신만의 예술 세계를 고집한 인물”이라며 “일반 대중과 어울리며 민간의 정서와 삶의 애환을 그림으로 담아냈으며 대표작으로는 '출유도(出游图)'와 '교유도(郊游图)'가 있다”고 설명했다. 

이어 “중국 고궁박물관, 대만박물관, 남경박물관, 랴오닝박물관에서 석각의 작품을 봤지만, 민간에서 본 것은 많지 않다”며 “석각의 그림과 명나라 문인 이동양, 송극 등의 발문이 더해져 이 작품은 소장 가치가 매우 높다”고 강조했다. 

그러면서 “두 달 전 일본에서 송나라 북송(北宋)의 4대 서예가 중 한 명인 황정견(黃庭堅)의 작품이 경매에 나와 2억5000 위안(약 473억원) 정도에 낙찰됐다”고 밝혔다.

그는 “송나라는 지금으로부터 거의 800여 년 전에 존재했기 때문에 지금까지 작품을 보존하기가 매우 어렵다”며 “한국의 큰 수집가인 김종춘 회장님의 끊임없는 작품 소장 활동에 경의를 표한다”고 강조했다.

한편 김종춘 다보성갤러리 회장은 "이번 감정을 통해 석각의 작품 세계를 깊이 이해하고, 나아가 중국 고대 미술의 발전 과정을 살펴볼 수 있는 소중한 기회가 됐다"라며 “아직 감정을 거치지  않은 작품들이 많이 남아있어 지속적으로 감정을 진행할 예정”이라고 말했다. 그러면서 "많은 분이 보고 즐길 수 있도록 이 유물들은 물론 공개하지 않은 유물들을 잘 선별해서 기획전시를 준비하겠다"고 말했다.

[Economic Daily] Daboseong Gallery has unveiled rare Chinese artifacts to the media, including a highly valuable album by the ancient Chinese painter Shike (934-965).

On June 13, Daboseong Gallery invited Chinese antique art experts to its permanent exhibition hall in Insadong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, for a public appraisal of various rare Chinese artifacts, including ceramics from the Song, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, and an album by Shike.

The appraisal of Daboseong Gallery's Chinese artifacts, conducted over two days from June 12 to 13, featured three renowned Chinese appraisers: Wu Xiaohua, advisor to the China Collectors Association, Xuan Jiaxin, vice president of the Shanghai Calligraphers Association, and Chen Ketao, executive vice president of the Shanghai Collectors Association. They had previously appraised Chinese artifacts at Daboseong Gallery last year.

The public appraisal included four pieces of pottery and one piece of calligraphy, all featuring traditional Chinese patterns and techniques.

Chen Ketao, who appraised four rare ceramic pieces from the Song, Ming, and Qing Dynasties, including a 'Blue and White Dragon Patterned Jar from the Xuande Period of the Ming Dynasty', expressed his pleasure at seeing such rare pieces for the first time and learning a lot from them.

According to Daboseong Gallery, during a private appraisal, Chen Ketao assessed a lidded jar from the Song Dynasty, believed to have been used by the royal family, as difficult to price but estimated that some pieces could be worth 42-52.5 million yuan (approximately 8-10 billion won). The jar features a lion-shaped lid, ears shaped like elephant trunks on both sides of its shoulders, and elaborate decorations with soy sauce-colored glaze, making it a highly prized artifact. A Daboseong Gallery official noted that such high valuations of Chinese ceramics in Korea are unprecedented.

Detailed interpretation of Shike's art style expected to be used as research material in art history

The centerpiece of the exhibition was an 826.3 cm by 47 cm large album containing works by Shike, attracting considerable attention. This album, featuring Shike's paintings as well as writings and paintings by notable figures from the Ming Dynasty, offers significant historical and artistic value. Shike's works are rarely seen in private collections, highlighting their rarity.

Shike, known for his unique art style, excelled in painting Buddhist and Taoist figures, characterized by free brushstrokes and satirical elements. The album includes various paintings showcasing his innovative style.

The album also includes writings and paintings by figures such as Tie Sui, a general of the Song Dynasty; Li Dongyang, a Ming Dynasty scholar and politician; Wang Zhideng, a renowned poet and calligrapher; and Song Ke, a calligrapher and painter, all featuring their seals. Their works enhance the historical and artistic value of the album.

Tie Sui wrote 'Miaomo Chuanshen' (妙墨傳神), meaning 'mystical ink conveys spirit,' Li Dongyang recorded his appreciation of the paintings in 'Spring of the Year of Wu Chen, Zhengde Era, First Month' in 1508, and Wang Zhideng praised Shike's pioneering artistic expressions in 'This book opens a unique realm of Shike’s own art and initiates another dimension of artistic expression.' The album concludes with Song Ke's inscription, 'Shike’s characters exhibit a flowing nature,' reflecting high praise for Shike’s character and art.

The album contains detailed interpretations of Shike’s art style, analyzing his unique composition, layout, and depiction of figures, making it a valuable research material for studying Shike’s works. The various paintings included in the album provide insights into the aesthetic techniques of ancient Chinese painting.

Vice President Xuan Jiaxin noted that Shike, who was born during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period and was active mainly during the Song Dynasty, resisted the royal court's invitations and persisted in his artistic endeavors, capturing the emotions and life of the common people. His notable works include 'Outing' and 'Picnic.'

Additionally, Xuan Jiaxin emphasized the rarity and high collection value of the album, with its combination of Shike’s paintings and the inscriptions of Ming Dynasty literati such as Li Dongyang and Song Ke. He also mentioned that two months ago, a work by Huang Tingjian, one of the four great calligraphers of the Northern Song Dynasty, was auctioned in Japan for around 250 million yuan (about 47.3 billion won).

He highlighted the difficulty of preserving works from the Song Dynasty, which existed about 800 years ago, and expressed respect for Chairman Kim Jong-chun of Daboseong Gallery for his dedicated collection efforts.

Chairman Kim Jong-chun of Daboseong Gallery stated that the appraisal provided a valuable opportunity to deeply understand Shike’s art world and explore the development of ancient Chinese art. He announced plans for continuous appraisals of remaining unappraised artifacts and future special exhibitions to allow more people to enjoy these treasures.
